Sound / TTS not working

How to fix sound issues

A quick checklist for when the game goes quiet.

If you can't hear the Game Master's voice, run through this quick checklist:

  1. Room settings. Open the room menu (the icon at the top) and make sure 🔊 Mute narration and effects is switched off. This setting is individual — if you're playing with friends, their mute settings won't affect yours.
  2. Device volume. Check if your phone or computer is on silent mode, and make sure the system volume is turned up.
  3. Browser permissions. Some browsers (especially Safari on iOS) block audio from playing automatically. Simply tapping anywhere on the screen usually unlocks it.
  4. Muted browser tabs. If you're on a computer, the browser might have auto-muted the tab. Right-click the tab at the top of your screen and select Unmute site.
  5. Bluetooth connections. If your wireless headphones disconnected, your device might still be trying to send audio to them.

If the audio plays but stutters or cuts out, you're likely experiencing a connection drop. Try refreshing the page or switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to common audio issues and questions.

Why don't I hear the narration?

Usually, it's one of three things: the Mute setting in the game menu is on, your device is on silent mode, or your browser is blocking autoplay (tap the screen to fix this).

I hear the voice, but my friend doesn't. Why?

Audio settings are per-device. Your friend needs to check their own device volume and make sure they haven't muted the game in their room menu. You can't control their audio from your screen.

Can I download the audio files?

Not right now. The narration is generated in real-time and isn't saved as a separate file. However, an audio export feature is on our roadmap! For now, you can replay any scene by tapping the play icon next to a message.

Why is the audio choppy or cutting out?

This happens when your internet connection is unstable. The audio streams as you play, so it drops out faster than text when the network stutters. Try refreshing the page, or switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data.

Why does the menu say "narration and effects" if there are no sound effects?

We added "and effects" to the menu because ambient music and action sounds are planned for a future update. Right now, the game only features the narrator's voice. If you hear other sound effects, they are coming from another app or browser tab.

How do I unmute a browser tab on my computer?

Right-click the tab at the very top of your browser window and select "Unmute site". If you don't see this option, simply click on the tab to make it active and refresh the page.
