AI response is slow

The AI is taking too long

Most responses arrive in 5–15 seconds. If a turn seems stuck, just refresh the page.

Normal response times:

  • Solo mode: 5–15 seconds
  • Co-op mode: 15+ seconds (the Game Master needs more time to process multiple players' actions into a single response)

If you've been waiting much longer than usual, or the game seems completely frozen:

  1. Give it a few more seconds. If your story is very long and detailed, it takes the AI a bit more time to read the context and generate a response.
  2. Refresh the page. If the request truly timed out, a quick reload will usually fix it.
  3. You won't lose Sparks. You are only charged when the Game Master successfully delivers a reply. If a turn fails to arrive, you keep your Sparks.
  4. Still not working? If multiple turns fail in a row, the issue might be on our end. Wait a few minutes, and if the problem persists, reach out to us at [email protected].

Common causes of delays:

  • Your connection: Try switching from Wi-Fi to mobile data, or vice versa.
  • Peak hours: Server load increases during evenings across major time zones.
  • Story length: Once you pass 40+ turns, the AI has a lot more history to analyze.

A quick tip: Please don't resubmit your action while waiting. Sending a second command before the first one finishes can cause duplicate turns. Just wait, or refresh the page.

Frequently asked questions

Learn more about AI status, multiplayer delays, and what happens to ignored turns.

Are the servers down right now?

We don't have a public status page just yet. If there's a known outage, we post updates on our community channels (you can find the links in the footer). The fastest way to check is to email [email protected] — we'll reply as soon as possible during working hours.

Why is multiplayer slower than playing solo?

In multiplayer, the AI acts as a true Game Master: it reads what every player wants to do, figures out how those actions interact, and writes a single, cohesive narrative. Because of this extra processing, co-op turns usually take 15–25 seconds, and even longer for large groups.

My turn took 60 seconds — is that normal?

It can happen. If you're deep into a long story, the AI has a lot of history to read before it can reply. Combine that with peak evening hours, and a 60-second wait is possible, though rare. However, if every single turn is taking that long, please let us know at [email protected].

Why didn't my action register?

It likely just timed out. Refresh the page once. If your action appears, the interface just needed an update. Remember, you aren't charged Sparks for responses that don't arrive. Please avoid repeatedly pressing the action button, as it creates duplicate requests that can confuse the story flow.

Should I send my action again while waiting?

No, it's best to wait or refresh the page. Hitting submit again sends a duplicate action, forcing the Game Master to process both. If more than 90 seconds pass with no response, just refresh the page — you'll safely pick up right where your last completed turn left off.
