How to use the app

How to play

A quick guide to taking your first steps in the app.

Welcome to Myriad Paths! If you're wondering where to start, you're in the right place.

Playing is simple: you choose a setting, decide who you want to be, step into the room, and use your voice to interact with the world.

Here is the basic journey: Find a world → Start Game → Choose a character → Play → Leave and return anytime.

1. Find an adventure

Resume a saved game or discover a new world.

When you open the app, you'll see My Stories. Think of it as your personal bookshelf. If you've already started playing, your active games are waiting for you here.

If you're looking for something new, head over to the Worlds tab. You can use the search bar to find specific themes, or use the filters to narrow things down:

  • All Worlds — Everything available to play.
  • Ready — Worlds you can jump into immediately.
  • Generating — Worlds that are still being built.
  • Groups — Multiplayer worlds for you and your friends.

2. Start the game

Read the premise, select your language, and jump in.

Tap any world card to learn more about it. You'll see a brief overview of the setting, how many players it supports, and its keywords.

Once you've found a world you like, choose your preferred language (ENG or RUS) and tap Start Game. This creates your personal game room and drops you right into the beginning of the story.

3. Choose your character

Select a pre-made role or create your own using your voice.

Before you make your first move, you need to decide who you are. The Choose Your Character screen will pop up automatically. You can pick any available role (roles taken by other players will be greyed out).

In some worlds, you can create a custom character. Tap Create Your Character, hold the microphone, and describe who you want to be. The AI will generate a character sheet for you — just tap Add Character when you're happy with it. Read more in Your character.

4. Play using your voice

Hold the mic to act, and use tabs to track your progress.

Everything you need is right inside the game room. You can switch between these tabs:

  • Scene — The story feed. This is where you and the Game Master interact.
  • Map — Your current location in the world.
  • Mic — The main button. Hold it to speak, release it to act.
  • Profile — Your character's current stats and status.
  • Quests — Your active goals and missions.

Unlike traditional text games, you play with your voice. Just hold the mic button in the center, say what you want to do, and let go. (Check Voice & narration for browser compatibility).

5. Manage your room

Use the top menu for sound, backgrounds, and game settings.

At the top of the screen, you'll find a few helpful controls:

  • The eye icon displays an image of your current location behind the text, giving you a better feel for the atmosphere.
  • The menu icon opens the room settings.

From the settings menu, you can mute the game, toggle Sparks (our in-game currency), change the language, switch characters, or safely Leave room.

Curious about how currency works? Check out Sparks and Who pays in co-op.

6. Interact with the story

Tap any message to generate images, rewind, or share.

You can interact with almost any scene the Game Master describes. Just tap a message in the feed to bring up a quick toolbar. From here, you can:

  • Replay or stop the voice narration.
  • Generate an illustration of the scene (if Sparks are enabled).
  • Give the response a 👍 or 👎.
  • Rewind the story to this exact moment.
  • Share a snapshot of the scene with friends.

Note: System messages and the opening scene might have fewer options. Check Save & rewind and Images in the game for more details.

7. Leave and continue later

Everything saves automatically. Just leave the room and come back whenever.

You don't need to look for a save button — your adventure saves automatically after every turn.

When you're ready to take a break, open the room menu and tap Leave room. Whenever you want to jump back in, just open the app, go to My Stories, and pick up exactly where you left off. Everything is tied to your account, so you can seamlessly switch between different devices.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to things that might confuse you during your first game.

What does the eye icon do?

It shows an image of your current location in the background, making the text easier to read while adding atmosphere.

I can't find the buttons to generate an image or rewind. Where are they?

Tap any normal story message in the feed, and a toolbar will pop up. Note that system recaps and the opening scene don't have these buttons, as you can't rewind past the beginning.

Where do I check my Sparks balance?

Open the room menu (the icon at the top). You'll see a row for Sparks showing your current balance, where you can also toggle them on or off.

How do I exit without losing my progress?

Progress is saved automatically after every turn. Just tap "Leave room" in the top menu. When you're ready to play again, you'll find your game in the "My Stories" tab.
